Von Ebert Brewing Branding

CHALLENGE
As a new brewery entering into a town that knows their hazy IPAs from their Belgian whites, Von Ebert was looking for a strong and memorable brand identity to debut at it’s flagship pub in Northwest Portland.

SOLUTION
The name “Von Ebert” is of German decent and was originally the founders’ mothers maiden name. I created a mark with some German heritage without creating something old or dated. Ebert translates to "boar", so I worked with an illustrator to create a boar to use as the brand mascot.

Our name gives our German heritage away, doesn’t it? But while our ancestors brewed in the German style, we’re not about cranking out batch after batch of beers you can’t pronounce like Dunkelweizens and Eisbocks. Instead, we honor our heritage by merging the stalwart craft of traditional German brewing with the intrepid spirit of adventure found only in the Pacific Northwest.

Although our beers are modern in style, we are firm believers that nothing complements a brew brimming with flavor like a traditional German pretzel. That’s why our menu is a crossover between German dishes and the kind of top-tier quality eats appreciated by Portlanders in this town of foodies. You’ll find a menu complete with locally sourced meats and produce, hand-breaded and golden fried treats, and wings smoked in-house.

Von Ebert Brewing is the crossroad where storied traditions meet bold new ideas in brewing. So grab a pint glass and enjoy nursing – or gulping if you like – the finest ales in the west.
